Conference by David
Faltot, Doctor of Fine Arts, attached to CEAC - Centre d'étude des arts
contemporains at the University of Lille.
Today, many artists
take advantage of daily practices and activities such as cooking or gardening
to "make art". By updating the genre of still life, they restore a
certain vivacity to objects, foods or symbols previously represented in
inanimate form in archetypal paintings of this artistic genre. So, how do some
artists apply themselves to bringing still life to life? Through various
contemporary examples, this conference will aim to analyze the work of artists
working from cooking or horticulture, in order to understand what is at stake
behind these new practices.
