"Chronology of an avant-garde project, the De Gorge railway in Hornu"

The history books record that the first Belgian railway was inaugurated on 5 May 1835, between Mechelen and Brussels. But who knows that five years earlier, in May 1830, the first real "iron track railway" was inaugurated in Hornu under the leadership of the entrepreneur Henri De Gorge?

On Sunday, the 17th of October 2021 at 2pm, local author Erick Lecomte will take you through the genesis and development of this revolutionary project, which was a transition from moving coal by trolley to an air conveyor. This didactic lecture will be given in French.
